A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next month for a Little Genesee, N.Y., man accused of stealing money from a Port Allegany woman.

Jared Scott Sherman, 21, of 8887 Route 417, Lot 7, is charged with theft by unlawful taking, a first-degree misdemeanor.

According to court records, Sherman was doing yard work for a Port Allegany woman when $200 came up missing from inside her residence. The victim told police Sherman had stolen from her before, the records read.

A hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 28 before District Judge Bill Todd. Sherman is free on $2,000 unsecured bail.
