AKRON, N.Y. –– Pine Acres Country Club PGA Pro Kirk Stauffer shot a four-under 68 and tied the course record Monday at the WNYPGA Professional Championship at Arrowhead Golf Club in Akron, N.Y.
Stauffer, the defending champion, is the leader after the first round of play. He tied the course best set in 2005 by PGA pro Lonnie Nielson at the U.S. Senior Open qualifier.
Stauffer will be joined in the second round by Rob Horak of the Canandaigua Country Club and Transit Valley Country Club’s Tim Fries, who both posted two-under 69s on Monday.
That threesome will tee off at 9:30 a.m. today. Three spots are on the line into the 2018 PGA Professional Championship, to be held June 17-20, 2018, at Bayonet Black Horse in Seaside, Calif. Three alternates will also need to be decided.
