ALBION –– Garren Black went the distance on the mound as Bradford Legion topped Oil City 5-1 to stay alive in the Region 8 tournament in Albion on Monday afternoon.
Black gave up eight hits, struck out 10 and walked none in all nine innings of work. Games at the Region 8 tournament are nine innings in length, two frames longer than what teams play in the regular season.
The win sets up a rematch today of Bradford’s tournament-opening 8-5 loss on Saturday against Wesleyville.
“We’ll be looking for a rematch from our 8-5 loss on Saturday,” Bradford coach Brian Fox said. “We’re excited.”
Black made quick work of Oil City, allowing a just fifth-inning run and threw only 104 pitches in the complete game effort.
“We asked Garren Black to come out and go the distance today. What more could you want?” Fox said. “It puts you in a good driver’s seat in any game if you don’t want anyone.”
Black also went 3-for-4 at the plate as Bradford (19-3) scored one in the first, two in the second and two more in the sixth. Nolan Brannon and Andrew Gunn suffered the mound loss for Oil City and allowed five hits.
