As a high school coach, what are some ways to best prepare and market players for the rigors and time commitment of collegiate athletics?
As an athlete, what are some facts, points of fiction and changes regarding NCAA eligibility?
For Bradford High student-athletes, some of those questions will be posed –– and then answered –– by Dynamite Sports’ Rick Wire during an August presentation in the school’s auditorium.
The hour-long free program, set for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, is sponsored by the Bradford High athletic department and will feature Wire giving his talk, titled, “Guiding the College-bound Athlete.” The presentation is open to student-athletes entering grades 8-12 and their parents.
Wire’s son is Coy Wire who played linebacker and safety in the NFL for both the Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Falcons from 2002 to 2010. Rick Wire created Dynamite Sports Educational Recruiting System after going through the recruitment process with Coy.
Wire’s talk will “provide direction to high school athletes and parents, and staff development training and resources to high school coaches and counselors to help all parties make knowledgeable choices and decisions in college athletics and recruiting,” according to a Dynamite Sports news release.
The program came to fruition after Bradford High Athletic Director David Fuhrman attended the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association Conference in Hershey in March, where Wire gave a presentation. A dialogue between Fuhrman and Wire followed.
“I think it’s important that our student-athletes and parents understand the recruiting process,” Fuhrman said. “Right now, I feel we have a strong group of athletes coming through our school who are interested in competing at the next level (NCAA D1, D2, D3, or NAIA). I am really excited for this night because I know this will be very beneficial for our student-athletes and parents.”
