SMETHPORT — A Smethport man was sentenced to a jail term Friday in McKean County Court for allegations from a race with stolen vehicles.
Austin J. Crooks, 28, will serve six to 18 months in McKean County Jail and pay a total of $3,900 in restitution for charges stemming from two cases, both of which are related to events that occurred over a single night. He’s charged in one case with conspiracy to commit theft by unlawful taking and in the second case with receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and summary charges.
According to the information that he pleaded guilty to in June, on Feb. 4, Crooks agreed with a 17-year-old boy to steal a 2005 Pontiac G6; then, on Feb. 5, he operated a stolen 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe without a driver’s license, took part in a race on Route 59 and was in an accident, of which he failed to notify authorities.
Also in court, Stephan P. Belt, 33, of Bradford, will serve three months to one year in McKean County Jail with credit for 32 days of time served and 18 months of probation for charges of corruption of minors and possession of drug paraphernalia. Belt pleaded guilty in June to allegations that on Feb. 20, he allowed a 16-year-old girl to smoke marijuana.
Todd H. Stahli, 22, of Eldred, will serve 18 months of probation for a charge of terroristic threats. In October, Stahli threatened physical violence to two people through text messages and Facebook, according to information he pleaded guilty to in June.
Kimberly J. Culberson, 45, of Punxsutawney, will serve 18 months of probation for a charge of theft by unlawful taking.
Samantha M. Cook, 21, of Bradford, will serve one year of probation for a charge of false reports. Cook pleaded guilty in June to allegations that on March 12, she reported an assault to law enforcement officials that did not occur.
Laura M. Ludwig, 34, of Bradford, will serve one year of probation for charges of retail theft and defiant trespassing. On Feb. 25, Ludwig took merchandise worth $7.86 from Walmart after she had been given notice not to be there, according to information she pleaded guilty to in June.
Mary C. Joseph, 63, of Bradford, will serve 30 days of house arrest for a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and summary charges.
Jared M. Smith, 30, of Kane, will serve 120 days in McKean County Jail for a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and summary charges.
