Replacement work has started on a bridge near the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Starting on Monday, Dorothy Lane from Route 346 to Campus Drive will be closed, which will limit access to the Pitt-Bradford campus. During the road closure the Pitt-Bradford campus will remain accessible from Campus Drive or Campus Road. This closure will be in effect until Aug. 14.
The state-owned bridge spans the west branch of Tunungwant Creek on Dorothy Lane at Pitt Bradford. The existing bridge is weight-limit posted for 27-tons for single vehicle and 32-tons for combination vehicles. It carries an average of almost 1,200 vehicles each day. Replacing the bridge will eliminate the weight posting and allow PennDOT to remove it from McKean County’s structurally deficient list.
Overall project work will include replacement of the old bridge, approach paving, guide-rail upgrades, pavement markings, and miscellaneous items.
All work is weather and schedule dependent. The L.C. Whitford Company Inc. of Wellsville, N.Y., is the contractor on this $3 million project. PennDOT expects the bridge to be complete and open to traffic in early November.
