The 17th annual Dream Makers for Make-A-Wish motorcycle charity run and auction will be held this Saturday at the Cameron County Vets club in Emporium.
This event benefits Make-A-Wish in Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Registration for the run begins at 10:30 a.m., and the run kicks off at noon.
The first stop with be in Coudersport at the Legion, where brats and hotdogs along with chips and pretzels will be served.
The next and final stop will be at the VFW in Emporium.
There will be over 40 items auctioned off at the event, including 55-inch flat screen donated by Walmart, as well as Harley Davidson single and double rider adirondack chairs.
“It’s for the kids, nothing is more important,” said Walt Sipe, chairperson and event coordinator at Make-A-Wish. Sipe has been involved with Make-A-Wish for eight years.
They are hoping for a great turnout, weather permitting.
Donna Heindel, who has been involved with Make-A-Wish for nine years, said this is a chance to raise money to be able to grant more wishes.
She wants everyone to know that this is a chance to show that even though we are from a small town, that we can still pull off a success for a good cause.
This event shows that they are an organization that is willing to help.
“This gives the kids a chance to forget about their illness,” stated Heindel. “That’s why we do it, to give.”
Heindel said the children are our future and they deserve more than what they were handed.
Make-A-Wish for Great Pennsylvania and West Virginia is a non-profit organization that works to grant wishes for children ages 2 ½ to 8 with life-threatening medical conditions.
The local chapter is currently one of the most active in the country, having granted over 17,500 wishes.
The event usual sees around 150 motorcycles, with around 200 people.
Last year’s ride and auction raised $19,500, and since its start in 2000, has raised more than $150,000 for Make-A- Wish.
Registration is $20 per person, and includes a free T-shirt, can koozie, as well as a ticket to the auction and giveaways.
All street vehicles are eligible to enter the event.
