The Lewis Run Borough council met on Tuesday night and discussed road repairs that will be happening in 2018 on Main Street in the borough.
U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Pa., announced on Monday that a federal grant of $500,000 will be awarded to the Lewis Run Main Street project.
This project is geared toward fixing and strengthening the infrastructure of the road in order to accommodate additional traffic.
The additional traffic is due to the Keystone Powdered Metals plant expansion.
The project will also focus on improving the road, installing new sidewalks, and working on drainage and sewer throughout Main Street, as well as the borough.
Borough council president Irv Swartz stated, “I want to thank (Appalachian Regional Commission) for working to get us the money, as well as the county commissioners.”
He also mentioned that he additionally wanted to thank JoAnne Caldwell, the secretary treasurer, for all of the phone calls and work she did for the project. Council also praised the assistance of Yvonne Lemelle, economic development analyst for Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development office of technology and innovation Appalachia Development Center.
Council also mentioned the McKean County Chapter of Pa. CleanWays will be sponsoring a tire recycling event on July 22.
Car tires will be accepted for $1.25 per tire, and truck tires for $2.50 per tire.
Tires can have rims on or off.
Pre-registration as well as pre-payment is required by this Friday, and can be made at the McKean County Conservation District office in Smethport.
Checks can be made payable to “Keep PA Beautiful.”
This recycling event was made possible through a grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection Household Hazardous Waste Program.

Council members decided to get a security camera over the garage by the dumpster over Lewis Run, due to vandalism. Soundtrack will be providing the camera.
Residents are being reminded to place address signs at their residence before the end of Summer.
By this time, letters will be mailed to residents without signs.
