ALLEGANY, N.Y. — A presentation on the girls’ soccer team invitation to attend a state tournament in September was the highlight of Tuesday’s Allegany-Limestone board of education meeting.
During the presentation, athletic director Jon Luce told the board the team had been invited to attend the New York State Soccer Hall of Fame Tournament to play in the inaugural competition Sept. 9 and 10 in Herkimer.
“We are the only team west of Rochester that has been invited to play in this,” Luce said. “Of the hundreds of high schools, we were one of 26 teams invited, so it’s a very special occasion.”
Luce, and soccer coach Dale MacArthur said the team will stage fundraisers and will accept donations, as funds will be needed for buses and hotel rooms.
Superintendent Dr. Karen Geelan said those who wish to donate to the event, may do so online through the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation. She said donors can click on Allegany-Limestone schools to make the tax-deductible donation.
In personnel action, appointments included the hiring of Rachel Berry as an elementary teacher at a salary of $38,167; and Jill Robinson to the 10-month position of director of the Teacher Center at a salary of $30,400.
In other matters, the board held its annual reorganizational meeting earlier in the evening. Activities included the administration of the oath of office to Superintendent Dr. Karen Geelan; and board members Jay King and Diana Maguire. Student member of the board, Morgan Davis, was not present for the oath.
The meeting included other appointments to district offices, as well as the approval of non-resident tuition prices, and athletic ticket prices and meal prices for the 2017-18 school year.
Tuition for non-resident students was approved at $3,271 for grades kindergarten through sixth grade; and $3,787 for grades seven through 12.
Athletic tickets are $2 for adults and $15 for the season; $1 for students and $10 for the season; free for senior citizens; and $30 for season passes for families.
