Donations of new sneakers, socks and backpacks may be dropped off at the Kane Area Community Center from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Monetary donations are also accepted and appreciated.
These efforts are part of the Operation Back to School Sneakers Socks and Backpacks Drive, serving the preschoolers to high school seniors.
During the first year of this program, 30 students were served, officials said. Last year more than 100 students of the Kane Area School District received sneakers, socks and backpacks.
Families who would like to request sizes for their children must stop in the center and fill out a request form. There are no income guidelines to qualify. There is no guarantee that sizes will be available; this program is strictly first come, first served.
Distribution will begin Aug. 7. Children must be present to receive items.
