SMETHPORT — A Bradford man pleaded guilty Thursday in McKean County Court to allegations that he strangled a woman.
Uriah Schiappa, 32, of Bradford, pleaded guilty to a charge of strangulation. On March 18, Schiappa choked a woman; during the incident she was “gasping for air” and “she gagged and felt like she could not breathe,” explained District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer.
He will be sentenced July 14.
Also in court, Austin J. Crooks, 18, of Smethport, pleaded guilty to charges in two cases. He’s charged in one case with conspiracy to commit theft by unlawful taking and in the second case with receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and several summary charges. According to Assistant District Attorney Sean Barrett, on Feb. 4, Crooks agreed with a 17-year-old boy to steal a 2005 Pontiac G6; then, on Feb. 5, he operated a stolen 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe without a driver’s license, took part in a race on Route 59 and was in an accident, of which he failed to notify authorities. He will be sentenced July 14.
Steve M. Parsons, 36, of Bradford, pleaded guilty to charges in two cases. In one case he’s charged with theft by unlawful taking, and in the second he’s charged with simple assault. According to Shaffer, on Feb. 10, Parsons took a package from a porch that had been delivered from Amazon and contained a cat tower worth about $200; then, on March 17, he grabbed a woman by the arm, and she struck a microwave and ended up needing sutures in a laceration by her left eye. He will be sentenced July 14.
Todd H. Stahli, 22, of Eldred, pleaded guilty to one count of terroristic threats. In October, Stahli threatened physical violence to two people through text messages and Facebook, said Barrett. He will be sentenced July 14.
Stephan P. Belt, 33, of Bradford, pleaded guilty to charges of corruption of minors and possession of a marijuana pipe. Barrett said that on Feb. 20, Belt allowed a 16-year-old girl to smoke marijuana. He will be sentenced July 14.
Samantha M. Cook, 20, of Bradford, pleaded guilty to one charge of false reports-reported an offense that did not occur. According to Barrett, on March 12, Cook reported an assault to law enforcement officials that did not occur. She will be sentenced July 14.
Laura M. Ludwig, 34, of Bradford, pleaded guilty to charges of retail theft and defiant trespassing. On Feb. 25, Ludwig took merchandise worth $7.86 from Walmart after she had been given notice not to be there, according to Barrett. She will be sentenced July 14.
Jessie S. Jones, 35, of Bradford, pleaded guilty to one charge of retail theft. On Jan. 22, Jones took $28.89 worth of merchandise from Dollar General, said Barrett. She will be sentenced Aug. 18.
