RIDGWAY –– Three-hit nights by Garret Babcock and Danny Manion and an early lead was all Bradford needed Sunday night as it took down Ridgway, 12-1, in Elk County Legion baseball action.
Babcock and Manion were each 3-for-3 and added an RBI double and triple, respectively. Manion also had a run-scoring single as Bradford (11-1, 9-0 league) raced out to an early 4-0 cushion in the first inning.
That lead was all pitcher Gage Babcock needed, as he pitched all five innings and struck out eight and walked one in the two-hitter.
“Gage Babcock pitched phenomenal,” Bradford coach Brian Fox said. “He located his fastball all day and never let them get their breath. Those four runs was more than enough of what we needed.”
Bradford added four more runs in the second and two in the fourth to run up a 10-0 lead. Derek Sunafrank had a two-run double, as did Greg Frederick.
“I was very pleased to have Greg Frederick come in and have a two-run double,” Fox said.
Ben Ames took the pitching loss for Ridgway (9-3), tossing four strikeouts, walking four and allowing nine hits. Jake Wickett had an RBI single in the fourth inning for Ridgway, which ended its regular season.
Bradford returns to action today with a doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m. at one-loss St. Marys. Bradford finishes its regular season on Tuesday at home vs. Wilcox at 6 p.m. before starting playoffs on Friday.
