WARREN — The Crary Art Gallery is kicking off summer by offering the opportunity to paint on their beautiful grounds learning gouache techniques in a friendly environment tailored to all experience levels.
The instructor in residence, Samila Sosic, is a talented fine artist as well as art instructor and Study Abroad Director at University at Pitt Bradford. Her exhibit of abstract paintings inspired by hummingbird flight patterns, “Birds,” is on display at the gallery until 6 p.m. Saturday; and by appointment after that.
Sosic explains, “The purpose of this residency is to guide participants in developing their capacity to see into the visible word, and to transform that vision into art. The participants are led gradually toward a deeper understanding of the relationship between natural and artistic forms. This is achieved by observing and analyzing elements and principles of design, as well as color theory and working techniques. Drawing and painting techniques are taught concurrently and are complementary. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced participants are assigned different projects, yet they will work together in a common space on a similar theme. Each participant is perceived as a “working artist”, regardless of his/her level. As artist in residence, I will coordinate a variety of lessons, curriculum requirements, and individualized instruction to suit each person’s needs.”
Workshops started this week and will continue through July. Drop in to as many sessions as you’d like, from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 21, 26, 27 and 29 and several days in July. Check the website to confirm. Students will show their favorite pieces at the gallery opening reception on August 26.
