GALETON — A Galeton man has been charged with failing to follow the requirements of Megan’s Law.
James Joseph Button, 67, is charged with two counts of failing to comply with registration requirements, one of which is a first-degree felony, and the other a second-degree felony.
According to court records, Button was living at a residence on U.S. Route 6 west instead of at his registered address, which was on West Main Street. At the same time, he had been employed, but had not registered his employment with the state police as required, the court records read.
Button had pleaded guilty in 1995 to charges of incest and statutory rape. He is a Tier 3 sex offender, and must register with state police for the rest of his life, according to court records.
Button was arraigned before District Judge Delores Weiss on Monday and released on $10,000 unsecured bail. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on July 3 before Weiss.
