SMETHPORT (EC) –– Smethport, which has a rich history of recognizing its military service personnel, may now have a new opportunity to continue this tradition.
Sherry Anderson, who has initiated this local project said, “I’m surveying the Smethport area to see if there is enough interest from individuals and families to honor any veterans by participating in the Hometown Heroes banner project.”
The wording “Hometown Heroes” will be displayed at the top of the weatherproof banners, which measure 18 inches by 36 inches and be displayed on utility poles throughout the borough.
“Besides a photo, each banner would also contain the veteran’s military branch, rank, years of service and war experience,” Anderson said. “If no photo is available of the veteran in his or her uniform, a picture of that person in clothing reminiscent of the era of years in the service would be appropriate.”
At the bottom of the banner would be the sponsor’s name or names.
The cost of each banner is $130, and this includes the hardware.
