SMETHPORT (EC) — The McKean County Historical Society will have an Arts on the Island event this weekend in Smethport’s Hamlin Lake Park.
The hours for the daily activities, including assorted arts and crafts, music and food, are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. “The public must be off the island by 8 p.m. on Saturday for the fireworks that are sponsored by the Smethport Fire Department and slated to begin at dark,” said Bart Barton, event chairman and a society director.
Barton said a car show from noon to 4 p.m. is part of Saturday’s schedule. “This is a drive-in event, and there is no registration fee,” Barton added. Each owner of a car for the show will be given a number for the public to vote. The McKean County SPCA has donated the use of its voting box to tally the monetary donations for each car. Other local businesses have also donated items for the show.
The top three cars and the overall winner in the motorcycle classes will receive a trophy, along with bragging rights. Contributions for the car show voting will benefit the society. A trophy store in Bradford has donated the trophies.
Lu Vandermark of the society’s Old Jail Museum, said, “Our directors and volunteers have been impressed with the strong community spirit shown for this event. We especially thank the Smethport Borough employees for preparing the park for the event.”
