FOUNDER’S DAY: Cole Memorial Hospital will be celebrating a milestone today.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the hospital will honor founder Charles Cole’s birthday –– and the 50th anniversary of the hospital.
People will be able to see Cole’s traveling historical display; enter a drawing for five history book giveaways; and sign up for the hospital’s 50th anniversary picnic to be held Aug. 19.
People can also post old pictures on Instagram at #50YearCole.
Also today, “Operation Appreciation” will be selling flags in honor or memory of veterans at Cole Memorial.
“Operation Appreciation is a simple way for our community to say ‘Thank You’ to our local veterans for the sacrifices they have made,” hospital officials said. “Join our Cole Family by decorating our hospital campus on July 1-7, 2017 with American flags to show our love, honor and respect to local veterans.”
Money raised will go to local veteran patients at Cole Memorial.
HEAT: Summer can be hot, sticky and downright uncomfortable. To cope with the heat this summer and stay healthy and safe, StatePoint Media offers these tips.
• Maintain your air conditioner. Regular maintenance of your unit can help ensure it will work all summer long. The easiest, and perhaps most important, maintenance task you can perform yourself is to clean or change the filter routinely.
• Stay informed with accurate weather information.
• Know what to wear. During the summer, lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing can make all the difference to your comfort.
• Schedule outdoor activities carefully. During periods of intense heat, stay indoors and, if at all possible, remain in an air-conditioned location. Limit your outdoor activities to morning and evening hours when it’s cooler.
• Stay hydrated. Make sure to avoid alcohol and caffeine, as they can quickly dehydrate you.
And, most of all, enjoy the summer –– because in the Bradford area, winter is never far off.
