BROCKWAY –– Bradford High’s Alex Daughenbaugh and Mitch Vleminckx are just a pair of players from the area that will represent the Allegheny Mountain League in the second Frank Varischetti All-Star game June 30 in Brockway.
In addition to the Bradford High players, select graduated seniors from area schools Smethport, Otto-Eldred, Coudersport, Cameron County, Kane, Elk Catholic, St. Marys and Ridgway will team up and clash against players from a team made up of seniors from the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference (KSAC). Kane head coach Todd Silfies will lead the the AML squad after assisting with the team last summer, while Clarion’s Larry Wiser will lead the KSAC team.
Nine players expected to play earned all-state recognition in the fall, including Jarrett Esposito (Brockway), Keaton Rounsville and Davis Gardner (Kane), Justin Kasmierski (Ridgway), Elijah Jacobs (Curwensville), Sam Leadbetter and Mike Macefe (Clarion-Limestone), Carter Dunmyre (Karns City) and Dana Logue IV of (Union/AC Valley).
The Frank Varischetti Foundation, with support from the Brockway Gridiron Association and the Brockway Area School District, is hosting the event. In addition to showcasing the best football talent in District 9, the game will award scholarships to a number of players.
The game coincides with Brockway’s annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration. Kickoff time is 7 p.m. Friday, June 30. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children.
The AML squad prevailed, 27-20, in the 2016 game.
