Wednesday saw no winner for the Powerball, and since then, it has crawled up to a record $337 million.
With that high of a jackpot, one would think that people would be flocking to convenience stores to put their bid in towards the millionaire lifestyle –– and it may even be true in most of America.
But that doesn’t seem to be the case in Bradford on Friday evening.
“Honestly, we really haven’t seen any crazy rush of Powerball players like I’ve seen on the news,” said Nicole Peterson, clerk of the Choice convenience store on West Washington Street. “Really, all we get are regulars. I feel like that’s who keeps the lottery going are regular players.”
Wally Durci of Bradford was at the Choice playing the lottery, but he wasn’t playing the Powerball.
When asked why, he responded, “I play the Cash 5 and the Mega Millions every so often and I buy a few tickets each. If I can’t win those, the chances of me winning that 300 million are even slimmer.”
No one has hit the Powerball jackpot since April 1 when someone in Arizona, who chose to remain anonymous, won a $60 million prize. Since then, 16 straight drawings have passed without a jackpot winner.
The drawing of the Powerball will be on today offering a cash option of $209.1 million. It’s tied for the 22nd largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history.
