MOUNT JEWETT — The Mount Jewett Memorial Day Parade will kickoff at 11 a.m. Monday at McClellan Avenue and travel down Main Street to the veteran’s gazebo, where services will be held.
This year’s parade marshal is retired U.S. Air Force Tech Sgt. Ted Bernhard, a Vietnam veteran.
Serving as speaker of the day is retired U.S. Marine Master Gunnery Sgt. Timothy Paul Mecca, who served 30 years in the Corps. His last two duty stations were Troy, Iraq, and Camp Butler, Okinawa.
Bernhard’s numerous decorations and personal awards are a Bronze Star, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, Joint Meritorious Unit, Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation with six stars, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with eight stars, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal with one star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 11 stars, Navy/Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon and a North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal.
A St. Marys resident, he is a graduate of Johnsonburg Area High School. He has a his wife and three children.
Master of ceremonies will be American Legion No. 574 Commander Kevin Kost. The Rev. Craig Smith of the United Methodist Church of Mount Jewett will give the invocation and benediction.
Kost will read the Prisoners of War/Missing in Action remembrance. Mayor Melissa McGuire is slated to read Gen. John Logan’s Memorial Day order.
Placing of the wreaths at the monument will be Ladies Auxiliary member Heather Geer, Veteran of Foreign Affairs Post No. 6347 Commander Patrick W. Eaton and Kost.
A 21-gun salute will be performed by American Legion Post No. 574 and VFW Post No. 6347 with taps.
An open house will follow at the Mount Jewett Veteran Memorial Club.
