SMETHPORT — A Kane man was arrested after allegedly punching and choking another man during an argument.
Robert William Duck Jr., 38, of 106 Clay St., was arraigned Monday before District Judge William Todd on charges of aggravated assault under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life, a first-degree felony; strangulation, a second-degree felony; simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, both second-degree misdemeanors; and harassment and public drunkenness, summary charges, court records stated.
According to court records, at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Duck and Ronald Jordan, 49, of 101 Clay St., arrived at the state police barracks in Kane to report an altercation they were in on Forest Road 122 Lafayette Township, about three miles east of Route 321.
Police said that the Duck and Jordan were arguing, and the argument turned physical. Duck allegedly punched Jordan in the right temple, then began choking him.
Court records indicated that Jordan was driving at the the time that Duck punched him.
The pair arrived together at the barracks, but “as Jordan was reporting the incident in the lobby, Duck fled the station on foot,” police reported. Troopers quickly stopped Duck on U.S. Route 219 and brought him back to the barracks. “Duck became increasingly belligerent with troopers while at the barracks.”
Duck was incarcerated in McKean County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, and he is scheduled to appear in Central Court on June 1.
