COUDERSPORT — A hard-fought, back-and-forth contest saw the Falcons emerge triumphant thanks to some clutch late-inning hitting in a 9-6 non-league victory over Canton on Monday.
Coudy’s Hunter Redmond (2-for-4, two doubles) drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to put the Falcons up for good. Also contributing on offense were Josh Stevens (two doubles, three RBIs) and Aaron Wolfinger (2-for-3).
Pitchers Elliott Hite, Kolby VanWhy, and Blake Burgett combined for six strikeouts and three walks.
“We didn’t play exceptionally well defensively,” Coudy coach Doug McClintic said. “We gave them too many opportunities. But we were able to grind it out and battle hard. Every time they scored, we came back to get a little more, so I was pleased with the effort.”
Coudersport (10-6) will visit Smethport this afternoon in its regular-season finale.
Otto-Eldred 9, Cameron County 4
EMPORIUM — Some sloppy fielding cost the Red Raiders dearly, as a balanced O-E attack combined with solid pitching was enough to get the Terrors the victory on Senior Night for Cameron County.
Sawyer Drummond and Chase Sebastian combined to strike out 14 Cameron County batters from the mound to lead the Terrors to a 9-4 win in Northern Allegheny baseball action.
Drummond and Chris Connolly both went 3-for-5 at the plate, with Connolly notching four RBIs and Drummond tallying two.
Adam Shaffer went 4-for-4 at the plate for the Red Raiders including a double. Brennan Guisto also went 2-for-4 with a double.
“You can’t afford to give any team extra outs,” Cam County coach James Cooney said. “A team like Otto-Eldred will make you pay.
“It’s a shame we couldn’t play better to give our seniors a win in their last home game.”
Smethport 9, Port Allegany 6
SMETHPORT –– Matt Stratton struck out seven to limit Port Allegany’s offense as Smethport notched a victory.
Stratton pitched four innings and issued two walks. He was relieved by Grant Ognen, who struck out four and walked one as the Hubbers picked up win No. 5 (5-8) on the year.
“Matt Stratton came in and pitched a great game for us,” Smethport head coach Colby Austin said. “He threw a lot of strikes.”
At the plate, Brayden Southard doubled while Nate Hollowell was 3-for-4 with a two-RBI single.
David Talkington, Devin Gustin and Tyler Lashway took the pitching loss for Port Allegany. At the plate, Howie Stuckey was 2-for-4 with a double and Talkington went 2-for-4 with two RBIs as the Gators attempted a comeback, scoring three runs in the seventh inning.
