Port Allegany 11, Oswayo Valley 10
SHINGLEHOUSE — Cailey Barnett drilled a two-run home run and had six RBI, as Port Allegany had to hang on for a one-run, 11-10 victory over Oswayo Valley in high school softball action Friday.
Barnett went 3-for-4 in the game and came up a triple short of hitting for the cycle.
Teammate Jenna Sprankle (2-for-4) belted a two-run triple in the win which squared the Lady Gators record at 7-7.
“We were up for quite a while, but errors let them back in the game,” Port Allegany coach Will Daniels said. “It was a good win and got us back to .500.”
Makenzie Burr was the winning pitcher, scattering 13 hits, recording two strikeouts and issuing just two walks.
In the circle for the Lady Green Wave was Madison Nudd, who surrendered 11 hits, fanned seven batters and gave up three walks.
At the plate, Nudd went 3-for-4 with a two-run double and Shayla Bickel was 3-for-4.
Port Allegany returns to action Tuesday, hosting Galeton.
Smethport 12, Northern Potter 1
ULYSSES — Emily Treat pitched and hit Smethport to its sixth straight win with an 11-run triumph over Northern Potter.
In the circle, Treat put together a two-hitter complete with five strikeouts in six innings of work. She issued just two walks.
At the plate she put the game out of reach with a three-run home run in the Lady Hubbers six-run sixth inning. Treat (2-for-4) also had a double in the game.
Backing her were Abby Woodard (2-for-4) with a double and Meagan DeLuca who went 2-for-3 with a double.
“We got good pitching and everyone put the ball in play,” Smethport coach Jon Peterson said. “We also played stellar defense with only one error. This was one of the best games we’ve played this year.”
Pitching for the Lady Panthers were Kalie Cowburn and Tory McCutcheon. They gave up 11 hits, had four strikeouts and passed out four walks.
McCutcheon accounted for both NoPo hits, going 2-for-3 with a double.
Smethport (8-5) is back in action today hosting Brockway. Play is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m.
Cameron County 12, Galeton 7
GALETON — Two big early innings were enough for the Lady Red Raiders to defeat Galeton on the road.
Cameron County plated five runs in the first inning and then six in the third to jump out to an 11-0 lead that it wouldn’t relinquish.
Starter Laila Smith struck out 15 batters in seven innings while allowing just five hits. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.
Ally Narby cracked a three-run home run in the first inning, while Alyvia McKimm finished with two doubles, a single, and two RBIs.
“Our offense is getting hot at the right time,” Cameron County coach Ralph McKimm said. “We’ve had our two best offensive performances of the season in back-to-back nights. I’ve been expecting it all year and it’s finally coming together for us.”
Makaya Shadle got Galeton on the board with a two-run home run in the third inning; she would finish 3-for-3 with two doubles.
Cameron County (11-4) will host Otto-Eldred on Monday.
