SMETHPORT — A preliminary hearing for a Port Allegany man charged with making threats is set for Aug. 10.

Frederick William Cochran Jr., 64, of 151 Two Mile Road, is charged with terroristic threats, a first-degree misdemeanor; recklessly endangering another person, a second-degree misdemeanor; simple assault and disorderly conduct, both third-degree misdemeanors; and harassment and public drunkenness, both summary charges, court records stated.

According to court records, at 10:03 p.m. March 12, Port Allegany police were dispatched to a fight at Shooters Bar. Once there, police learned that Cochran had allegedly opened a knife earlier and threatened to harm himself and his wife, so two people kept Cochran restrained until police arrived.

Witness reports indicated that Cochran said he wanted to kill himself and was going to kill his wife, and he pushed the bartender and family members, court records stated.

Cochran had been scheduled for a Central Court appearance this past Thursday, but the court appearance was pushed back to August. He is free, having posted $25,000 bail.
