KANE — A Kane woman is facing allegations that she failed to supervise a 14-month-old child, who was found outside in the rain.
Tammie Marie Antonuccio, 38, of Biddle Street, was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge David Engman on one charge of endangering the welfare of a child, a first-degree misdemeanor, court records stated.
According to court records, at 10:55 a.m. April 20, someone called Kane Borough Police to report that a small child was found outside unsupervised between 518 and 520 Elk Ave. A woman had gone outside and allegedly discovered a 14-month-old baby in the rain, crying and muddy, without any clothing on except a soiled diaper.
The officer talked with the caller and three other neighbors, and none recognized the baby. The officer knocked on the door of 518 Elk Ave. at least twice — with no answer — then called for help from Children and Youth Services, court records read.
A CYS caseworker arrived at 11:27 a.m., and about 10 minutes later Antonuccio was spotted standing on the back porch looking in the direction of the officer, caseworker and neighbors. Antonuccio came over and “demanded her child,” and the officer explained that he and the caseworker were investigating the incident, court records stated.
Antonuccio told police that she and her four children were staying temporarily at 518 Elk Ave. because the resident — who has two children of her own — was recovering from surgery, and Antonuccio was helping her.
She said she had lain down for a nap about 10 a.m. with the baby, and she just woke up and was looking for the child, according to court records.
“She stated that it was not her fault and that she was tired due to caring for her friend,” court records read.
Antonuccio was released on $2,500 unsecured bail, and she is scheduled to appear for Central Court on May 18.
