Bradford City Council adopted an ordinance regulating fireworks within the city limits.
The law was introduced April 11, then passed on its second — and final — reading at Tuesday’s meeting. It regulates the display of fireworks and establishes penalties for anyone who violates it.
Anyone who wants to display fireworks must obtain a permit, and the Bradford City Fire Department must approve the display, inspecting for any safety hazards. Displays of consumer and display fireworks are only allowed in an approved location. The only approved location listed in the ordinance is Oak Hill Cemetery.
Council also approved resolutions related to upcoming projects.
Permission was granted to advertise for bids for the 2017 resurfacing of five city streets, a project funded by liquid fuels money.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced earlier this year that Bradford City is receiving $256,622.54 in its annual Act 89 liquid fuels allocation.
City officials also granted permission to seek bids for improvements to the Kennedy Street entrance of city hall. The project includes a wheelchair ramp and planter.
Also at the meeting, council gave approval for lease agreements with two companies at the Robert P. Hapgood Jr. Business Development Center. Servco Services Inc. will use its space for storage, and W.G. Satterlee & Sons will use its space for manufacturing.
Leah Anderson was appointed as a temporary employee of the fire department, effective May 1, for up to 90 days or as long as a full-time firefighter is out for illness or injury.
Council approved the following payments:
• $1,545.88 to Stoney North Enterprises for vehicle maintenance
• $2,677.72 to General Code for codification of a supplement for the City of Bradford Code Book
• $1,533 to Mailbox Appeal for streetlight parts
• $2,903.18 to 6V Sales & Service for tires for streets and refuse vehicles.
No visitors addressed council during the meeting.
