GAMES: The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, N.Y., has announced the third class of games that will be inducted into its World Video Game Hall of Fame.
A list of 12 finalists was narrowed down to these four 2017 inductees: Donkey Kong, Halo: Combat Evolved, Street Fighter II and Pokemon Red and Green.
According to The Strong, these games left their mark on the world of play in many ways.
They “generated gaming icons, redefined the first-person shooter game, started a monster-collecting craze and forged the fighting game genre.”
Even if you’ve never played any of these games, we’re willing to bet most of our readers are familiar with the image of Donkey Kong or one of the Pokemon characters.
“The four inductees span multiple decades, countries of origin and gaming platforms, but all have significantly affected the video game industry, popular culture and society in general,” officials from The Strong stated.
The World Video Game Hall of Fame started in 2015 to mark the impact electronic games have made on culture.
The newest inductees were announced on Thursday, and visitors can see a permanent view of them on the second floor of The Strong.
MOMS:Is everyone thinking about their moms this week?
With Mother’s Day coming up on Sunday, we wanted to invite readers to share their stories about their own mothers.
We bet all of you have a good story of a time when mom did the sweetest, funniest or most unexpected thing. Maybe she caught you in the middle of childhood shenanigans, and she had you shaking in your boots. Maybe she went out of her way to do something special for your birthday.
Tell us about it.
