The YWCA Bradford’s 2017 Leadership Awards will recognize Christine Minich and Bryn Manion at a luncheon to be held at noon June 6.
The luncheon will be in the Mukaiyama University Room at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Each year, the YWCA Bradford recognizes adult women and young women (between the ages of 16 and 25) who have demonstrated leadership qualities and made a difference in the lives of women and girls in McKean County at its annual Leader Luncheon.
Nominations help the YWCA identify adult and young women whose community service, academic and/or professional successes exhibit their extraordinary leadership or potential thereof.
Minich is described as a strong advocate of the community and continually empowers others to reach their potential. In addition to her position with Zippo Manufacturing Co., she also holds a vital role in her husband’s business, Minich Electric. She has served the Bradford Area Public Library, as past chairman and current member of the board of trustees.
As chairman, she oversaw and helped execute the action plan for the Early Children’s Literacy Center, as well as the library’s recent capital campaign. Additionally, she assisted with the realignment of the administration of the library.
Her prior years of leadership include being a former board member of the Bradford Creative and Performing Arts Center, the Era’s Less Fortunate Fund and Festival of Trees and volunteering with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. She remains active in her Christian faith and accepts opportunities to serve her church.
“I have great admiration of the leadership women play in our community and the support they receive from their peers,” Minich said. “For me to be recognized as an honoree this year is quite humbling but an honor I will always treasure.”
Manion is the Young Leader honoree. A senior at Bradford Area High School and the daughter of Daniel and Carla Manion, she quoted Mother Teresa as an example by which to live.
“She led by example and compassion, and attributed her accomplishments to her faith; this is the manner in which I aspire to lead others myself,” Manion said.
Tickets are $30 per person and all are welcome to attend. To make a reservation for the Leader Luncheon, call 368-4235.
