ST. MARYS — Seven runs in the third inning was enough for the Lady Crusaders to down the Lady Owls 11-1 in five innings on Friday.
ECC (8-4) starter Michelle Gerber tossed a two-hitter on the mound, striking out nine batters in five innings while walking just one.
The Lady Crusaders got contributions up and down the lineup, with Jenna Weisner (1-for-3, two RBI, run), Brianna Weisner (two RBI, run), Jordyn Fox (2-for-3, RBI double, run), Brandi Clyde (1-for-3, triple, two runs), Rosina Wero (1-for-3, RBI, two runs), and Gerber (2-for-3, double, run) among those who got in on the action.
Emily Warner drove in Bradford’s (1-8) only run on a groundout that scored Alyssa Persichini.
Starter Kaylee Brown struck out three and walked one in four innings of work. She also notched Bradford’s other base hit.
Smethport 15, Youngsville 0, four inn.
SMETHPORT — Abbey Woodard‘s grand slam and pitcher Emily Treat’s one-hitter powered Smethport to an easy 15-run, four-inning victory over Youngsville in non-league high school softball action Friday.
Woodard picked out her pitch and sent it over the fence to spearhead an 11-run outburst by the Lady Hubbers in the bottom of the fourth inning.
“We kind of put it away in the fourth with the 11 runs,” Smethport coach Jon Peterson said..
Treat, meanwhile, dominated the Lady Eagles striking out five batters while issuing no walks.
“It’s been a busy week for us,” Peterson continued. “We won three of four games and after an 0-5 start are now 4-5 on the season.
“Today we got our bats on the ball and put it in play. Everyone available got to play,” he added.
Olivia Goodwill also had a triple for the Lady Hubbers in the first inning.
The losing pitcher was M. Mineweaser. She surrendered just four hits, but gave up eight walks. She recorded six strikeouts in the game.
Smethport returns to action Monday at home versus Coudersport.
Coudersport 19, Oswayo Valley 4, five innings
SHINGLEHOUSE — Coudersport used a pair of big innings to run away with a big win on the road on Friday.
The Lady Falcons (9-1) plated six runs in the third and seven more in the fourth to put away the Lady Green Wave.
Macy Gleason (2-for-4) cranked a two-run home run, while Shaylyn Black went a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI. Emma Rae Easton also went 4-for-5 with an RBI.
“Our girls are seeing the ball really well these last couple of games,” Coudy coach Dan Counts said. “The pitchers are doing a good job of limiting hits. Oswayo Valley is a young team but they’re competitors. We’re on a little bit of a roll right now.”
Shayla Bickel knocked a two-run home run to finish with three RBI for Oswayo Valley (4-7).
Coudersport will host Wellsboro today.
Cameron County 7, Port Allegany 5
PORT ALLEGANY — Alivia McKimm belted an inside-the-park home run to key Cameron County’s victory over Port Allegany on Friday.
McKimm’s blast was one of 10 Lady Red Raiders’ hits. Backing her were Amily Schatz with a two-run double and Bickford who went 2-for-4 with a triple.
The winning pitcher was Layla Smith. She scattered five hits, recorded seven strikeouts and gave up four walks.
“Cameron is a good team,” said Will Daniels, Port Allegany coach. “The bottom line is that we had our chances, but you can’t make five errors against a good team.”
However, the Lady Gators coach was pleased about the way his team fought back.
“We were down 7-2 and battled back,” he pointed out. “I’m really happy with the way they finished.”
Makenzie Burr was the losing pitcher despite eight strikeouts and just two walks.
At the plate for the Lady Gators, Lauren Dynda went 4-for-4.
Port Allegany (5-5) hosts Galeton on Monday.
