CLEARFIELD — On Monday, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will begin replacement work on a Route 46 bridge in Norwich Township.
The bridge is located on Route 46, approximately two miles north of the McKean and Cameron County line. The 17-foot bridge dates back from 1931 and spans Pigeon Hollow Run. Average daily traffic along Route 46 in this area exceeds 1,000 vehicles. Replacing the bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from McKean County’s structurally deficient list.
Initial work will concentrate on the installation of drainage. Short-term flagging operations will be in place for this work. After drainage work is complete, an alternating traffic pattern will be enforced by temporary traffic signals. This will allow crews to remove the existing single-span slab bridge and replace it with a reinforced concrete box culvert.
The new bridge is expected to be in place by the mid-November. The overall project will be complete by the beginning of October 2018.
Other project work includes paving, guide rail installation, pavement markings, and miscellaneous items.
All work is weather and schedule dependent. Francis J. Palo Inc., of Clarion, is the contractor on this $1.6 million project.
