There’s no place like home.
Originally, the Bradford High boys tennis team was set to play a schedule made up wholly of away matches, but some scheduling changes have now allowed the Owls to use their home courts at Pitt-Bradford.
The Owls (4-4) took advantage of their home-court advantage, taking down St. Marys 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
“Dorothy did have it right, there’s no place like home,” Owls head coach Mark Sherman said. “You get to see some familiar faces. People are rooting you on.”
The home fans had plenty to cheer for, as Bradford High won all four singles matches and two doubles.
It was nice to see some smiling faces,” Sherman said. “I think the kids really appreciated it. St. Marys has a good young squad and we just came out and put it to them today.”
Mitch Forbes, in the No. 1 singles spot, continued his hot season by taking down the Dutch’s Adam Snyder in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
“Quietly, Mitch Forbes is still undefeated this season at No. 1 at 7-0,” Sherman said.
Brent Kennedy and Alex Barton also won in straight sets in singles, while Jared Lucas beat Cody Schaberl in three.
“For the first time (all season), all four of my singles players won tonight,” Sherman said. “That was a big bonus for us. All four matches, the kids played well. Brent and Mitch are on cruise control now.”
In doubles, the Forbes-Kennedy and Joe Yaros-Brett Degolier duos won 8-2 and 8-0, respectively. Nick Haver and Hugh Kennedy lost 8-4 to St. Marys’ Schaberl and and Zach hart.
The Owls return to action Tuesday against DuBois Central Catholic at Pitt-Bradford for another home match.
