Bradford business owners and officials are gearing up for bigger and new activities in the coming weeks.
A community meeting held Wednesday at Wright’s Music Shed featured a listing of goings-on around the city.
Ladies’ Night Out is scheduled for today, starting at 4 p.m., and the event includes shopping and dining.
Also coming up is Lunch in the Square, on the calendar for May 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Veterans Square. The Bradford Area High School’s Jazz Ensemble will perform, and about 10 restaurants are planning to participate at the event.
New this year will be free parking along Pine Avenue and Main Street down to Congress Street, said Bradford City Main Street Manager Chelsea Schwab. Also this year Marilyn Horne Way will be shut down during the event.
“I think it’s pretty exciting the event is getting bigger, and we’ve got the support of council,” she said.
Schwab also said that a Mother’s’ Day Tea is scheduled for May 13 at Veterans Square. Tickets are $3 and includes one cup of tea or coffee and one baked good. Proceeds benefit Main Street events.
New this year in the city will be a celebration of International World Day of Music on June 21 from 5 to 8 p.m., co-sponsored by Downtown Bradford Business District Authority and Wright’s Music Shed.
The event will showcase all kinds of music, said Ed Wright, owner of Wright’s Music Shed. Among the expected performers include rock bands, a concert band, a bagpipe band, a handbell choir and a string ensemble. Between 12 and 14 performing groups have signed on so far, Wright said.
“There are all kinds of performing groups, but we also have all kinds of demonstrations going on,” he said.
Instrument repairs will also be able to be made at the event, Wright said.
Main Street from Kennedy to Chambers Street will likely be shut down that day, and sidewalk sales are also being planned.
“We just need to pray for good weather,” Wright said.
