The Bradford City Water Authority will open bids at 10 a.m. May 23 for the sale of timber from its Hidden Valley property on the Bradford watershed.
The board talked about the sale at its meeting on Wednesday. The sale will include 962,910 net board feet of marked sawtimber and 567 cords of pulpwood.
Bradford City receives a portion of the profits from the authority’s timber sales.
The authority voted in favor of a $25,000 capital project in which a water authority crew will install a main line extension crossing through Marilla Brook toward Sleepy Hollow. A hydrant will also be installed on the opposite side of the creek.
This is a good time to add a main line extension to cross the brook, as a Bradford Township crew will already be doing work in that area this summer, replacing the Sleepy Hollow Bridge, according to Executive Director Steve Disney.
However, Disney explained after the meeting that water service will not be provided at this time for Sleepy Hollow residents, but the main line extension means they could be added to the water system in the future.
Disney and the board took time in the meeting to express their gratitude to distribution center crew “for their efforts to effectively and efficiently repair water main leaks during the past several months,” he said.
Crews were called out several times during inclement weather to make line repairs, as lines are susceptible to breaking when the weather alternates between freezing and warming.
In other news, construction has begun on fishing piers and canoe launches that are to be installed at the Marilla and Gilbert reservoirs. Work on the Gilbert pier and launch is expected to take about four weeks, then work will begin at Marilla.
The McKean County Conservation District has partnered with the authority on the project, and the district has offered grant funding that is to be used for recreation on public lands.
The authority also voted in favor of selling a 1998 Hudson Equipment Trailer. The sale will be advertised in the paper for a minimum bid of $2,500, according to Disney.
