SMETHPORT — Kiara Orner belted two doubles to help Smethport post an 8-6 victory over Northern Potter in high school softball action on Tuesday.
Smethport held a 5-1 lead going into the third inning, but the Lady Panthers chipped away at it and made it close at the end.
“NoPo fought back and we held on,” Smethport coach Jon Peterson said. “We’re still learning how to win.”
Meagan DeLuca went 2-for-4 and Alana Durphy 2-for-3 for the Lady Hubbers, now 2-5 on the season.
Emily Treat picked up the win in the circle, scattering 11 hits while recording three strikeouts and issuing three walks.
Tory McCutcheon and Katie Cowburn pitched for NoPo, combining to give up 10 hits while fanning six batters and giving up three walks.
McCutcheon (3-for-4) also led the Lady Panthers at the plate with a leadoff home run in the top of the first inning.
“She started the game with the home run that went right over center field,” Peterson noted.
Smethport returns to action today at home with Galeton.
