Earth Day is Saturday. Celebrate the day — clean up your street or park, plant a few trees, start composting, build a rain barrel, recycle or re-use more items at home or school.
The Conservation District has information on how to start these projects.
Citizens in McKean County will have more opportunities to clean up hard to dispose of waste. A recent collection of electronics and household hazardous waste held in Smethport gathered 5,337 pounds (over 2 tons) of household hazardous waste (like paint and chemicals) and 12,369 pounds (over 6 tons) of electronics waste.
Another collection of electronics will be held on July 23rd in Bradford. This event is free, except for light bulbs and devices containing Freon. Residents can only bring one TV per carload, as per state law.
A tire collection will be held in June in Smethport. Residents can dispose of tires at a minimal cost at this event. Pre-registration will be required.
Watch for more details on these events soon.
