Over the Easter holiday weekend, Kane-based state police took the message of safe driving to the streets of McKean County, with 181 citations issued between Friday and Sunday.
“Crash reduction, that is the whole goal,” said Sgt. Ryan Nuhfer, station commander of Kane barracks of state police.
“Our aggressive driving enforcement is reflected in the amount of total crashes,” Nuhfer said. There were two, a low number for a holiday weekend when more drivers are on the road, traveling to see family.
Neither crash was related to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, he added.
There were four DUI arrests during that time frame. Those four drivers cited for DUI were also charged with a total of 10 other summary traffic offenses, and three were cited for failing to wear seatbelts.
State police had one criminal arrest over the weekend as well.
Nuhfer said there were 60 speeding citations issued, two citations for child passenger seats, five for seatbelts and 23 warnings for seatbelts. There were 71 other traffic citations as well, he said.
“The guys here do a good job,” Nuhfer said.
