CLEARFIELD — On Monday, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will begin replacement work on a U.S. Route 219 bridge in Lafayette Township.
The bridge is located on Route 219, about 1 mile south of Lewis Run borough. The 55-foot bridge dates from 1929 and spans Lewis Run. Average daily traffic along Route 219 in this area exceeds 4,600 vehicles. Replacing the bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from McKean County’s structurally deficient list.
Initial work will concentrate on saw cutting and shoulder repair from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Short-term flagging operations will be in place for this work,
Starting April 25, removal of the existing two-span bridge will begin. Once removal is complete, replacement work will get underway. Throughout the project, an alternating traffic pattern will be enforced by temporary traffic signals. The new bridge is expected to be complete in early November.
Other project work includes paving, guide rail installation, pavement markings, and miscellaneous items.
All work is weather and schedule dependent. L.C. Whitford Company Inc., of Wellsville, N.Y., is the contractor on this $1.6 million project.
