WARREN — A litany of mental errors cost the Bradford boys (1-3), as Warren used big runs in the third and fourth innings to run away with a 12-2, five-inning victory.
“We can play with anybody until we beat ourselves,” Bradford coach Andy Carlson said. “That’s something that’s been happening too much, too early this year. We’ve just made too many errors. You take the number of errors you have and double it and that’s probably the number of mental errors we’ve made.”
Starter Dan Manion gave up seven runs, striking out two and walking two. Carlson doesn’t feel that accurately reflects his pitcher’s performance, however.
“You look at his line and he really shouldn’t have allowed any runs if we were playing good behind him,” Carlson said.
Manion also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Hunter Gray drove in the Owls’ other run, both of which came in the top of the fifth.
Bradford will be back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Oswayo Valley.
Coudersport 7, Cowanesque Valley 0
COUDERSPORT — It was a complete performance for the Coudy boys (3-2), as they cruised to a shutout victory over Cowanesque Valley.
Pitchers Kolby VanWhy and Elliott Hite combined to allow just three hits while striking out six and walking four.
“Our freshman pitcher [VanWhy] did a good job of throwing strikes and keeping the other guys off the bases,” Coudy coach Doug McClintic said.
Owen Chambers and Eli Ayers both finished with two RBI apiece, while Aaron Wolfinger drove in another and Josh Stevens went 2-for-3 with a double.
“The guys came out and did a really good job,” McClintic said. “Even when we didn’t score, we were putting pressure on them.”
The Falcons will travel to Johnsonburg on Tuesday.
Brockway 11, Cameron County 1, five innings
BROCKWAY — A pair of big innings doomed the Red Raiders (2-3), as a four-run first and a five-run fifth put Brockway (3-2) over the top.
Tyler Serafini (2-for-3) and Hunter Antonuccio (2-for-4) both drove in two runs for the Rovers, while Cam Baka went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Cam County’s Tristan Reed drove in his team’s only run, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Reed was also the starting pitcher, going four innings, striking out one and walking three.
“I was fairly pleased with how well we were hitting the ball,” Red Raiders coach James Cooney said. “They just happened to be in the direction of a Brockway player. We only struck out three times which is a big improvement for us.”
Otto-Eldred 5, Eisenhower 4
EISENHOWER –– Cameron McGee ripped a two-out hit to help Otto-Eldred escape with a 5-4 non-league victory at Eisenhower.
After Eisenhower battled back from a 3-0 deficit to score four in the bottom of the sixth, McGee slapped a two-out single that scored one runner, while the go-ahead runner scored on an error for Otto-Eldred (5-1).
The Terrors’ Sawyer Drummond pitched six innings of seven-hit ball, striking out 11 and walking three. Andrew Sheeler got the win in relief, pitching a scoreless seventh. His one hit allowed was erased when catcher Seth Drummond threw the runner out at second base.
“It was a good game, a good comeback,” Otto-Eldred assistant coach Dan Drummond said.
Chris Connelly also hit a two-run double for the Terrors, which return to the diamond with a home game Tuesday against Olean Walsh.
Smethport 9, Kane 2
SMETHPORT — Orion Alexis’ two-run single helped trigger a five-run third inning that lifted Smethport over Kane (0-4) in high school baseball action on Thursday.
Hubbers’ starting pitcher Bailey Kinner held the Wolves scoreless for four innings and helped himself at the plate with a two-run double in the fourth.
All totaled, Smethport pounded out 15 hits off Kane pitchers Cyrus Novosel, Austin Jordan and Stahli.
“Bailey (Kinner) pitched a phenomenal four and one-third innings and our defense backed him very well,” Smethport coach Colby Austin said.
The Hubbers (1-2) will be idle until April 21 when they travel to Otto-Eldred.
