The Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce will induct five businesses and institutions into its Century Club at this year’s annual meeting and awards presentation.
Those entities to be recognized this year for being in operation for 100 years or more in the Bradford area include: Church of the Ascension, First Presbyterian Church of Bradford, Hill Memorial United Methodist Church, McQuilkin Plumbing Co., and Penn State Extension – McKean County Office.
A plaque will be presented to a representative from each organization at the Annual Meeting and Awards Presentation, to be held on April 20 at The Pennhills Club.
The Century Club was created in 2001 to honor those area businesses and organizations achieving 100 years of service. This year’s honorees join 33 previously recognized members of the Century Club.
The three churches being recognized this year have all been in operation for well beyond the 100 year threshold. The Church of the Ascension was chartered in McKean County in 1880, after having held its first service more than 20 years earlier. The First Presbyterian Church of Bradford first formed as a congregation in 1877, and celebrates its 140th anniversary this year. Hill Memorial United Methodist Church began in 1866, and has now been in operation for 151 years.
The relative newcomers in this year’s class of Century Club inductees are McQuilkin Plumbing Co., which was founded 110 years ago in 1907, and the McKean County Office of Penn State Extension, which opened in 1916 and celebrated its 100 year anniversary in 2016.
