NORTHERN ALLEGHENY
JOHNSONBURG –– Walks and miscues let a potential win slip away from Bradford High as Johnsonburg topped the Owls, 6-4, in Northern Allegheny baseball action Monday afternoon.
On a blustery day in which neither team recorded an extra-base hit, it was Johnsonburg that was able to capitalize on 10 bases on balls to come away with the win. Owls’ starter Kyle Kirk struck out two, walked two and gave up two runs on three hits in his three innings of mound duty.
Relievers Peyton Manion and Tom Guay, however, were not able to hold Bradford High’s lead, as the Rams scored once each in the fourth and sixth innings and twice in the fifth.
Patrick Caskey and Tyler Gigliotti both singled twice for the Owls (1-2), while Gigliotti, Kirk, Peyton Manion and Danny Manion all recorded RBIs.
“It was just a game we had every opportunity to win early,” Bradford High head coach Andy Carlson said. “We let Johnsonburg hang around. We didn’t do the little things to win the game.”
Austin Green and Mitchell led the Rams (4-1) with two hits apiece.
Bradford is back in action at Warren on Thursday.
Oswayo Valley 6, Coudersport 5
COUDERSPORT –– Grant West and Ryan Graves helped Oswayo Valley bounce back from an early season loss Saturday by edging Coudersport.
The Green Wave opened up a 6-0 lead by the top of the fourth inning behind two hits from West and a Ryan Graves two-run double. Coudersport got itself back in the game with a five-run fifth inning.
Colby Vanwhy and Aaron Wolfinger walked, while Elliot Hyte singled and Josh Stevens and Colin Crosby each doubled for the Falcons (2-3). However, the early deficit was too much for Coudersport to come back from.
Oswayo Valley’s Garren Black pitched four innings of shutout ball, striking out eight and walking three while scattering four hits. Gavin Babcock relieved him in the fifth. Blake Burgett scattered eight hits while striking out three and walking three for the Falcons.
“We didn’t play great baseball in the beginning,” Coudersport coach Doug McClintic said. “We made Blake work harder than he should have.”
The Falcons caught an OV player in a run-down, but committed one of two errors on the day by throwing the ball off the Green Wave player’s helmet, letting him score.
“We just didn’t play real clean and it got the ball rolling for them,” McClintic said.
Coudersport plays at Port Allegany on Wednesday.
Cameron County 12, Port Allegany 0, five innings
EMPORIUM — April 10 might just be a day Adam Shaffer remembers for a while.
The Cameron County junior pitched a no-hitter, striking out 10 and walking three in the five-inning complete game win against Port Allegany. At the plate, Shaffer belted a three-run home run and scored two runs to help his own cause and help the Red Raiders (1-2)to the team’s first win of the season.
“Adam Shaffer played an overall awesome game at the plate and on the mound,” Cameron County head coach James Cooney said. “We took advantage of some of their early mistakes.”
Bryce Bauer added a 1-for-4 effort at the plate, bombing a three-run home run and finishing the day with four RBIs. Dino Brown was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
Howie Stuckey took the mound loss for Port Allegany, striking out two and walking four in two innings of work.
Cameron County heads to Smethport on Wednesday, while Port Allegany is at Coudersport.
Otto-Eldred 8, Bolivar-Richburg 7
DUKE CENTER –– Despite trailing 6-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Terrors fought back to top the Wolverines thanks to some clutching hitting.
Trent Windsor drove in three runs for Otto-Eldred (4-1), while Nick York added a stolen base and two RBI of his own.
The Terrors also got solid pitching from Sawyer Drummond and Chase Sebastian. After starting the game and striking out six and walking just one, Drummond was replaced by Sebastian in the third inning, going the rest of the game while striking out five.
“We took advantage of a couple of walks and we came up with some key hits in tough situations,” O-E coach Jame Thomas said.
Otto-Eldred will visit Archbishop Walsh on Wednesday.
