CLEARFIELD –– Mitchell Signor claimed first place in the discus as Fretz Middle School boys track and field team placed third out of 10 teams at Clearfield’s Bison Stampede junior high track invitational Saturday.
Signor’s championship medal was the only first place of the day for Fretz, which also got a handful of third-place finishes. Jacob Pattison was second in the 110 hurdles and took fourth in the 300s.
In the pole vault, Stephen Morgan and Ian Paterniti tied for third, while Spencer Whittemore was third in the discus.
On the track, Drake Hayden was third in the 1,600 meters while the 4×100 (Devin Sweet, Nolan Gonzalez, Conner Maze, Pattison) and 4×400 (Gonzalez, Ryan Ward, Gavin McGee, Gabriel Mitchell) also took third.
Hayden also placed in the 3,200 meters (fifth) and 400 dash (fourth), Mitchell was sixth in the 1,600 and triple jump, Gonzalez was fifth in the 200 and Ryan Cottillion finished fifth in the 110 hurdles.
“It’s where we want to be in the season,” Fretz coach Matt Gilligan said. “It was a true team effort.”
Fretz is on the road today for a meet at Punxsutawney before hosting DuBois at Parkway Field on Wednesday.
Bosworth, Lucas sweep distance events as Fretz finishes 2nd
CLEARFIELD –– Emily Bosworth won two distance races and Mackenzie Lucas took first in another as the Fretz Middle School girls track and field team finished second at Clearfield’s Bison Stampede junior high track invitational Saturday.
Bosworth won the 1,600 and 800 races, while Lucas won the 3,200 to give Fretz a sweep of the distance events.
Lucas also placed second in the pole vault, while Bosworth, Tehya Hollamby, Gabriella Campogiani and Marissa Miller teamed to take second in the 4×400 relay.
Hollamby was fourth in the 100 hurdles and third in the 300s, while Miller took third in the 400 dash. Campogiani was fifth in the 100 meters, while Alexandra Asp (sixth, 100 hurdles), Mary Miller (fifth, discus) and Abigail Nuzzo (sixth, pole vault).
“Everything is coming together very well,” Fretz girls coach John Werlau said. “The girls are working very hard. We’re excited for the rest of the season.”
Fretz is on the road today for a meet at Punxsutawney before hosting DuBois at Parkway Field on Wednesday.
