COUDERSPORT — The annual forest management/habitat tour will take place April 30 at the Susquehannock State Forest.
Representatives from the Susquehannock State Forest, Sinnemahoning State Park, Black Forest Conservation Association and the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s elk biologist and a local land manager will be participating in this year’s tour. The Susquehannock State Forest is located almost entirely in Potter County and consists of approximately 265,000 acres.
The tour will begin at 9 a.m. at the Sinnemahoning State Park Wildlife Center, located at 4843 Park Road in Austin.
Several different site visits are planned for this year’s tour, including the Sinnemahoning State Park where workers have been working cooperatively with the Pennsylvania Game Commission to improve wildlife habitat, an active state forest timber sale, a gas storage field within the Susquehannock State Forest, the Hammersley Wild Area and the Sinnemahoning State Park Wildlife Center.
“The goal of the tour is to exchange information, build a better relationship with those that use the state forest, observe and discuss some of the challenges involved in both sustainable forest and wildlife management and examine some of the forest habitat improvements that are taking place,” officials said in a prepared statement. “Participants will hopefully leave with a better understanding of the interaction between forest management and wildlife habitat and be able to incorporate some of these techniques on their own private lands.”
The free tour will conclude at 2 p.m. Transportation and lunch will be provided.
