SMETHPORT — A Bradford man pleaded guilty Thursday in McKean County Court to charges stemming from four separate criminal cases.
David D. Mihalko, 36, of Bradford, pleaded guilty in one case to theft by unlawful taking, in two cases to simple assault and in a fourth case to fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and five summary charges.
According to District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer, on Dec. 14, Mihalko fled from law enforcement officials who were pursuing him while he was under the influence of a controlled substance, going through a stop sign, driving faster than was safe. On Sept. 3, he entered into a mutual fight with a woman, and on Dec. 2, he injured another woman. Finally, on July 1, 2015, took a class ring, coins and a safe deposit key worth a total of $850.
He will be sentenced April 13.
Also in court, Brandon S. Brooks-Ledbetter, 20, of Bradford, pleaded guilty to a charge of cruelty to animals. Shaffer said that on Jan. 27, Ledbetter smashed a kitten into a wall, causing a broken spine and pelvis breaks; also, the kitten had mold growing on it from lying in feces. The kitten had to be euthanized. He will be sentenced April 27.
Mark Carlson of East Smethport pleaded guilty to a charge of simple assault. According to Assistant District Attorney Sean Barrett, on Jan. 14, Carlson choked a woman after a verbal altercation. He will be sentenced April 27.
Brian L. Rice, 25, of Bradford, pleaded guilty to a charge of theft by unlawful taking. Barrett said that on Dec. 5, Rice took $908.88 in cash from a safe at the Slice of the ’80s restaurant in Bradford. He will be sentenced May 11.
Elizabeth A. Knapp, 31, of Port Allegany, pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct and a summary charge. On Dec. 19 at Shooters Bar in Port Allegany, Knapp threw a glass, nearly striking a patron, and screamed at the bartender and struck her in the head, said Barrett. She will be sentenced April 27.
Chandra B. Wedge, 32, of Bradford, pleaded no contest to a charge of disorderly conduct and guilty to a summary charge. On Dec. 17, 2016, Wedge took toys and bait worth $29.64 from Walmart, and she was verbally disruptive with police when they tried to arrest her, causing them to have to restrain her, according to Barrett. She will be sentenced April 27.
Misty M. Good, 32, of Bradford, pleaded guilty to a charge of retail theft. On Oct. 13, 2016, Good took food and Febreze, worth $10.30, from Save-A-Lot grocery store, Barrett said. She will be sentenced April 27.
The following people were accepted into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition Program: John M. Hart, 46, of Bradford, for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence of alcohol; Tracey L. Kandare, 46, of Bradford, for possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence of a controlled substance; Daryl W. Hillard, 63, of Lewis Run, for DUI controlled substance; and Montana J. Akers, 21, of Smethport, for DUI alcohol.
