MOUNT JEWETT — The Borough of Mount Jewett has offered two men part-time positions in the police department, but one of the men has already declined.
During the Monday night Mount Jewett borough council meeting, Councilman Tom Geer made a motion to extend offers to Patrick Straub for 25 hours per week at $12.50 per hour and Michael Spencer for administrative duties for 10 hours per month at $12.50 per hour. The motion was approved.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Mayor Melissa McGuire said Straub had been contacted, but declined, stating he had taken a position elsewhere. McGuire was still working to contact Spencer who was out of town until the end of the week.
In other business, Mount Jewett Rotarian Wil Antrim indicated that the Rotary Club would be hosting its annual Easter Egg hunt this coming at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Community Park. McGuire said the Mount Jewett Assembly of God youth group would be hosting a chicken parmesan dinner later on Saturday and that tickets could be purchased through any youth group member.
Moving into maintenance, Councilman Gene Ginkel offered updates on the storm water issues being experienced by residents along Anderson Street on the side of the Community Park. After a thorough investigation while it was raining, he and Council President Brett Morgan determined several steps to take including, having Aqua relocate a fire hydrant to open an irrigation ditch, additionally channeling to divert water and having resident review their French drain systems for needed repairs.
Additionally, Geer was going to support Ginkel in searching for bids and costs to repair street stormwater catch basins that were suspected of needing repair. More information and next steps were slated to be discussed at the next council meeting.
Finally, under maintenance, the dates for the Annual Spring Clean Up were set for May 15th-19th with a $25.00 one-time pre-pay cost for trash disposal. Resident Brian Sees volunteered to provide a roll-off to collect scrap metal. Those interested in registering for the cleanup can contact the borough office between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The next regularly scheduled Mount Jewett Borough council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. May 1.
