SHIPPENVILLE — Bradford senior Bri Wells was named to the 2017 All-District first team for girls basketball as part of the end-of-the-year awards presented by All American Awards & Engraving and D9sports.com.
Wells finished her final season in a Bradford uniform averaging 20.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.7 steals, and 2.1 assists per game. She also reached the historic 1,000-point milestone for her career.
Joining Wells on the first team were Tori Obenrader (North Clarion), Haley Keck (Coudersport), Ashley Hallowell (DuBois), Emily Hegedus (Karns City), Camryn Thomas (Otto-Eldred), and Leah Miller (Punxsutawney).
Obenrader was named the D-9 Girls Player of the Year after leading North Clarion — helmed by D-9 Coach of the Year Terry Dreihaup — to a D-9 Class A championship as well as an appearance in the PIAA state quarterfinals. The junior forward averaged 23.5 points and 15.8 rebounds per game.
Port Allegany’s Cailey Barnett was named Rookie of the Year after averaging 12.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
The All-District second team was made up of Ellie Thompson (A-C Valley), Ella Marconi (Kane), Taylor Greer (Keystone), Kristina DeMatteis (Moniteau), Alazia Greaves (Moniteau), and Abbey Woodard (Smethport).
Rounding out the third team were Hannah Dixon (Curwensville), Mackenzie Craig (Karns City), Kalie Cowburn (Northern Potter), Autumn Buchsenschutz (Port Allegany), and Emily Fullem (Ridgway).
All award winners and all-district performers receive either a plaque or a certificate courtesy of All American Awards & Engraving in Shippenville.
This is the 18th year of the postseason District 9 awards and the 17th they have been housed at D9Sports.com (the first year, 2000, the awards were awarded by the Tri-County Sunday out of DuBois). It marks the ninth year All American Awards & Engraving has been the title sponsor of the awards.
