A Bradford man who was arrested earlier this month on assault allegations now faces an additional felony charge.
A charge of strangulation, a second-degree felony, has been filed against Uriah N. Schiappa, 31, of Charlotte Avenue, court records stated. Records also show he is charged with simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor; disorderly conduct, a third-degree misdemeanor; and harassment, a summary charge.
Schiappa appeared for a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone, who bound all four charges to McKean County Court.
According to court records, Schiappa called his girlfriend a derogatory name when they were arguing about how to discipline children, and she told him, “This is it” — meaning she was ending the relationship.
He allegedly pushed her and slammed a door, knocking items off a wall, and she said she would call the police. He grabbed her by the hair and punched her in the face several times, loosening teeth in her mouth; at one point during the incident, he took her cell phone so she couldn’t call police, court records allege.
She went to the emergency room at Bradford Regional Medical Center for treatment.
After the assault, he returned briefly to the home, where he kicked in the door, breaking it, and tried to smash front windows, according to court records.
Schiappa remains incarcerated in lieu of $40,000 bail.
