Poet Tanya Holtland and composer Daniela Candillari will give a joint presentation of their creative work Wednesday in the KOA Speer Electronics Lobby of Blaisdell Hall at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Following the noon concert, Holtland and Candillari will join Pitt-Bradford faculty members Dr. Nancy McCabe, professor of writing, and Dr. Joshua Groffman, assistant professor of music, to discuss issues of gender diversity in the arts.
“This presentation is an opportunity to highlight the role women play in the arts today while raising awareness of barriers that remain to a truly diverse arts environment,” Groffman said.
Candillari is a composer, pianist, conductor, TED Fellow and Fulbright Scholar.
Holtland’s chapbook “Inner River” was recently published by Drop Leaf Press.
During their residency at Pitt-Bradford, Candillari and Holtland will meet with student composers, musicians, and writers, who will have a chance to talk with and learn from these emerging artists who are increasingly prominent in their fields.
Following the residency, Candillari and Holtland will collaborate to write text and music for a new vocal work that will be premiered by acclaimed soprano Lucy Dhegrae at Pitt-Bradford in Fall 2017.
The presentation is sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh Year of Diversity and the Pitt-Bradford Women’s History Month Committee.
