Flutist Michael Matsuno will perform next week as part of a multimedia recital with University of Pittsburgh at Bradford students enrolled in the Art Awareness course.

The recital, which is part of the university’s Spectrum Noon Tunes series, will take place at noon March 23 in the Studio Theater of Blaisdell Hall. It is free and open to the public. A light lunch will be served.

Dr. Joshua Groffman, assistant professor of music, is coordinating the program of works for solo flute presented in conjunction with visual art, poetry, sound and movement by arts students.

“The students have been working for the past month to craft multimedia responses to the works that Michael programmed,” he explained.

Matsuno will be in residence at Pitt-Bradford throughout the week to collaborate in person with the students, rehearse and present the result of the collaboration to the public. Matsuno will also premiere a new work by Groffman for flute, live electronics and video.

Matsuno is a dynamic performer and collaborator based in San Diego. He performs frequently on the flute, piccolo and alto flute and is a doctoral candidate in contemporary music performance at the University of California San Diego.

The recital will also include works by Steve Reich, Toru Takemitsu, Edgard Varese and Harold Meltzer.

Students taking part are Brooke Andrews, Anna Bajowsky, Javon Bloodsaw, Chrissy Brunecz, Aleah Busbey, Vincent Curtis, Matt Dennis, Yamiles Escalera, Patricia Fitz, Meg Girard, Gabriel Gomez, Alexis Horning, Brooke Imbriale, Katelynn Langhans, Mariah Leggs., Adrian-Neah Lozada, Amy Pontious and Ryan Waltenbaugh.
