Bradford High’s Alex Daughenbaugh headlines this week’s Big 30 Charities Classic roster additions.
Daughenbaugh, 5-6, 150 pounds, was a fullback/middle linebacker for the Owls.
He plans to attend Penn State Behrend and major in software engineering.
He received his team’s defensive MVP his junior and senior years. In addition, Daughenbaugh was selected to the AML all-star team.
Academically, he is a member of the National Honor Society.
He said playing in the Classic will be a “huge honor.” Daughenbaugh’s brother played in the Classic.
Daughenbaugh’s most memorable football moment was playing with his best friends.
His hobbies include playing video games and spending time with friends.
Also added to the Pennsylvania roster are Tristan Reed of Cameron County and Nicolas Williams and Matt Marconi, both of St. Marys.
Reed, 6-0, 200 pounds, was a running back/cornerback for the Red Raiders.
Reed plans to attend a four-year college and pursue a degree in engineering. While in college he would like to continue his football career.
At Cameron County, Reed lettered two years in football and two years in baseball.
He said he is honored to have been invited to play in the Classic and is proud to represent his school in the game.
His most memorable moment playing football was rushing for 283 yards in one game.
Reed’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, football and baseball.
Williams, 5-11, 225 pounds, was a guard/end for the Dutch.
Williams plans to attend St. Vincent College and major in accounting and finance. He will also play football for St. Vincent.
His athletic accomplishments are KSAC All-Star both offensive line and defensive line and KSAC co-lineman of the year award winner.
Academically, he is the recipient of the DECA District Champion in the Business Category. In addition, he is a member of the National Honor Society and the recipient of the Presidential
Award Scholarship from St. Vincent College.
Williams is looking forward to continuing the tradition of representing St. Marys High School in the Classic.
His best memory playing football was being part of the team that finally beat Moniteau 26-25 in 2016.
Williams’ hobbies include weightlifting, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and
friends.
Marconi, 5-11, 195 pounds, was a running back/linebacker for the Dutch.
Marconi plans to enter a four-year college and major in engineering.
He was named All-KSAC at running back and was named to the first team Big 30 at running back. He was a team captain in both football and basketball at St. Marys.
In addition, Marconi was named team MVP in both football and track.
He wants to play in the Classic because of the tradition and talent that has been involved in the game for so many years.
His most memorable football moment was beating Elk Catholic his sophomore year.
Marconi’s hobbies include lifting weights and playing basketball.
Added to the New York roster are Jacob Hardy and Dylan Jones of Cuba-Rushford and T.J. Southwick and Jason Opferbeck of Cattaraugus-Little Valley.
Hardy, 6-2, 275 pounds, was an offensive guard/defensive tackle for C-R.
Hardy plans to attend a four-year college and major in architecture or engineering. He would also like to continue his football career while in college.
He is a four-time 1,000-yard rusher and two-time All-Livingston County first-team all-star.
Hardy is a member of the National Honor Society.
He wants to play in the Classic to show how hard work and dedication to be one of the best has its rewards.
His most memorable moment playing football was beating Avon for the first time in school history.
Hardy’s hobbies include fishing, hunting, lifting and football.
Jones, 5-9, 235 pounds, was an offensive guard/middle linebacker for C-R.
Jones plans to attend Texas A&M University and major in engineering.
He was named Homecoming MVP his junior and senior years.
He is a member of the National Honor Society.
Jones’ greatest memories playing football were the brotherhood formed with his teammates and
being able to play for his father.
His hobbies include hunting, lifting and helping out on the farm.
Southwick, 6-0, 151 pounds, was a wide receiver/cornerback/linebacker for Catt.-LV.
Southwick will be entering the Air Force on Aug. 15.
He was the recipient of a 2016 Character Award in Section 6. He was chosen MIP in basketball in his 2015 and 2016 seasons. Southwick was selected to the state team in 2016.
He said it has been a dream of his since his freshman year to be part of the Classic.
His most memorable moment playing was scoring his first touchdown against Silver Creek.
Southwick’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, trapping and snowboarding.
Opferbeck, 5-10, 235 pounds, was an offensive guard/defensive tackle.
Opferbeck plans to enroll at Fredonia to major in mathematics.
He was a captain on his varsity football team. He received the H.O.G. lineman award at CLVHS.
Additionally, Opferbeck is a high honor roll student and top 10 in his class.
His hobbies include hunting, fishing, powerlifting and skiing.
This year’s game will be played at 7 p.m. Aug. 5 at Bradford High’s Parkway Field.
