The YWCA Bradford is set to host its first ever LuLaRoe fashion show from 1 to 4 p.m. on March 18 in the St. Bernard Auditorium on West Corydon Street in Bradford.
The event, which is being organized by the local group, 2 Roe Girls, and the YWCA, is titled “Fashion for a Cause.” Admission is $5 per person.
“There is a huge craze going on right now for LuLaRoe clothing and patterns,” stated Angela Erway, development and marketing director for the Bradford YWCA. “Two local women, Pam Rinfrette and Kristina Luzzi Case, formed 2 Roe Girls and reached out to us about putting together an event that could be both fun and beneficial for the YWCA and the Bradford community — and that’s where the idea for a LuLaRoe fashion show began.”
Women everywhere are “raving” over LuLaRoe, a clothing brand that has catapulted from near obscurity to popularity status in the past couple of years. The brand, which sells brightly-colored shirts, skirts, leggings and dresses, isn’t available in stores or on a company website. Instead, tens of thousands of people across the country are selling LuLaRoe to friends in their living rooms and in online forums, or, in this case, by featuring the “stylish yet comfortable” clothing in a community fashion show, Erway explained.
The show is designed to raise awareness and money for the Bradford YWCA, noted Erway.
“All admission proceeds will go directly to the YWCA,” she said. “Additionally, 2 Roe Girls will be donating $5 for each item sold, and LuLaRoe corporate is also set to match a specific amount based on the overall proceeds of the event.”
Attendees are also asked to bring “any available” donations, Erway added.
“Whether it’s a non-perishable food item, toiletries or anything miscellaneous, we’re asking that those attending volunteer something small to accompany the $5 admission fee,” Erway commented. “But there’s no pressure; anything beyond the $5 fee is entirely voluntary, yet will be greatly appreciated and put to good use in satisfying local needs.”
The funds will be used to contribute toward the YWCA’s efforts in transferring their facilities.
As the new development and marketing director at the YWCA Bradford, Erway has been overseeing the $3.3 million capital campaign that will fund the renovation of the agency’s future home at the former Second Ward Elementary School.
“The overarching purpose is awareness, and getting the YWCA Bradford name out there and letting people know what services and programs are available and why there is a need for a new facility in order for us to continue to flourish within the community,” Erway commented.
Doors to St. Bernard will open at 1 p.m. Saturday, and the fashion show will begin around 1:30 p.m., Erway noted. 2 Roe Girls, who have done most of the coordinating for the event, will present models wearing LuLaRoe garments for approximately one hour. Then, guests will have an opportunity to “shop around and socialize,” she explained.
Erway, Case and Rinfrette met at St. Bernard’s on Friday to discuss final details for the fashion show, to which preparation has gone “very smoothly,” Erway said.
“So far it’s been fun and easy, and I’ve been amazed with all of the people willing to volunteer and help with this event that 2 Roe Girls has organized,” she stated. “It’s our first year holding an event like this, so we’re hoping to see positive results and to be able to continue the fashion show from year to year to further advance the services that the YWCA offers within the community.”
And, if you haven’t heard of LuLaRoe, or gotten your hands on some of the brand’s clothing, this is an awesome opportunity to jump on board with this popular, growing trend, added Erway.
